Herbal Medicine, Medical Herbalist

Simply put, I use plants as medicine.

I use carefully prescribed plant medicine to support your health, resilience and vitality.

I combine the long tradition of plant-based medicine with science-based research and an individualised whole-person approach.

I am fully insured (professional indemnity, public liability, medical malpractice and product insurance) and a member of a professional association National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). I adhere strictly to their code of ethics and professional standards.

In your first consultation, I take a full medical history, perform physical exams where appropriate (including blood pressure measurement) and screen for any red flags, referring on where necessary.  I focus on identifying and addressing underlying causes not just managing symptoms.  If you are taking any medications I carefully assess for potential herb-drug interactions before prescribing your bespoke prescription. I work alongside conventional healthcare, not in opposition to it.

The herbal medicine I prescribe is typically alcohol-based tinctures but also powders, dried herbs (tea) capsules, glycerites and topical treatments (there are always options if you can’t or don’t tolerate alcohol).

Common conditions I work with:

  • Cardiovascular: Hypertension, venous insufficiency, raised cholesterol.

  • Respiratory: Asthma, COPD, coughs, colds and flu.

  • Gastrointestinal: Digestive concerns, IBS, IBD, dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhoea.

  • Nervous system: Mood, anxiety, sleep, neuropathies, sciatica.

  • Urinary system: Recurrent urinary infections (UTI’s), cystitis.

  • Musculoskeletal: Pain and inflammation.

  • Skin: Eczema, acne, psoriasis.

  • Women’s health: Perimenopause, menopause, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility.

  • Men’s health: Libido, stress, prostate health, fertility.

  • Endocrine: Fatigue, low energy, adrenal and thyroid support.

  • Allergies and immune health: Hay fever, recurrent infections.

What I would also like you to know:

In the UK, the title “herbalist” is not legally protected.  Membership of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists requires completion of an approved degree-level training course and adherence to rigorous professional standards.

Herbal medicine is not a replacement for urgent or acute emergency NHS care.   As a medical herbalist, I do not treat cancer, but I can offer supportive care alongside conventional treatment to help manage side effects and symptoms.

Herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years.  When prescribed appropriately, it can be both safe and effective - but it is also powerful, which is why your safety is always my priority.
